Atlanta Moms: Your Family’s Safety — One Less Thing To Worry About

Saturn Security - Atlanta
As a mom, you have enough to worry about. With soccer practices, science fair projects and getting dinner on the table, the last thing you’re probably thinking about is your home’s security.

But after helping the kids do their homework, you might want to do some of your own. After all, a security system can help protect the life you’ve worked so hard to build — and all for less than you might expect.

Here are just a few things you should know, courtesy of the Saturn Security team:

Wired systems provide a greater challenge for thieves.
Many home security companies will try to sell you on a wireless security system. That’s because it’s easier for their salesmen to install. A wired system, however, is harder for intruders to thwart. So make sure you’re getting a wired system installed by trained experts, not salespeople.

Multiple monitoring centers deliver increased reliability.
It’s best to select a company with more than one monitoring center. That way, in the event of an outage at one location, your home’s system can be monitored by another center with no interruption in service.

A security system can save you up to 20% on your homeowner’s insurance.
Regardless of the company you choose, having a security system installed in your home can lead to a reduction in your monthly insurance premiums.

A Special Offer For AtlantaMoms.com Visitors:

$14.95/mo. for 12 months

Atlanta Moms: Fernbank NatureQuest – A Must Do!

We had such a great time at Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s new NatureQuest exhibit a couple of weeks ago.  We could have stayed for hours.  Even my 11 year old!  I expected my 4 year old to love it and want to stay but my 11 year old son explored every nook and cranny and could have stayed all night.

Fernbank NatureQuest Exhibit

Fernbank NatureQuest is a different kind of museum experience–one where children are engaged through over 100 interactive encounters on a journey to explore an immersive, nature-inspired environment. It’s a space filled with live animals, hands-on learning and the thrill of following curiosity’s path. Everywhere you look, there is something to “do.” Games, interactives and live animals are just the beginning! Look, explore, engage, observe, discover, climb, play, learn!

  • The Clubhouse is home base for a variety of activities, including microscopes, books and activity cards.
  • Each ecosystem has a Forestry Sign. Check there to see what discoveries have been made today and then see if you can find them.

My son loved the waterfall and sciency areas while my daughter loved the ‘moving water’, book nook, and the canopy walk.
Fernbank NatureQuest hours are Monday-Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday Noon – 5pm

Enjoy your visit to Fernbank Museum of Natural History!

January Nature Exchange Highlights at Chattahoochee Nature Center

It might be cold outside but now is the time to really show your trees how much you love them. Sure, we appreciate trees for what they give us in the spring, summer and fall- shade, fruits and nuts, that whispering sound when the wind blows. But we forget about the trees during this time of year and this is one of the best times to get to know them.

Chattahoochee Nature Center - Nature ExchangeGo outside and take a good look at the trees in your backyard or local park. Trees at this time of year can be very dramatic. Focus on how the bark looks and feels on different trees. Look up and notice how the branches are silhouetted against the sky. If you’re feeling creative, get out a camera and photograph tree silhouettes at different times of the day or from different angles.

Trees can also be silly and fun. Get creative and play a game with your tree!  Trees make great partners in hide and seek and are the perfect base in tag. You can dress up your tree with a little creativity. Make eyes, nose and a mouth out of paper and give your tree a face – add a scarf for a little whimsy!  Or build a fairy house at the base of your tree to invite some company over for your new friend.

In January, the Chattahoochee Nature Center is celebrating trees in the Nature Exchange. Throughout the month, you can “adopt” a tree that lives at CNC. There are fun learning games and activities all about trees in the Nature Exchange throughout January. And, if you trade in a tree item, you will receive 50 bonus points!

Get to know your trees and we look forward to seeing you at the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
