Everyone In Your Family Will Find Their Happy At The King And Prince Resort And On St. Simons Island

During our trip to The King and Prince Resort earlier this week myself, my husband, my son, and daughter all found our own happy-place and we didn’t even have to look for it. It just happened.

I, for example, am convinced that my brain has a chemical reaction when I see and hear the ocean. When I am at the beach, I’m in my happy place. The King and Prince Resort’s ocean backyard, beautiful ocean views from the villas and rooms, restaurants and pools, and swings that sway from the ocean breeze, ensure that I’m in a happy place during my entire stay there. I *need* nothing else.

Finding our happy-place at The King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island

My son is happiest when he’s climbing trees. He was very happy to find this tree outside the St. Simons Lighthouse. He instantly found his happy place when he places his hands and feet on the tree in climbing position.

My daughter is happiest when she’s floating. She tries to float in mid-air (dancing) but there isn’t a time when she’s nearly as at peace as when she is floating in a pool, of which The King and Prince Resort has at least five.

My husband found his happy place while he was finding beautiful whelk (or conch) shells on the sandbar and when he was building sand castles with the kids at all hours of the day and night, right outside our villa.

It’s so wonderful that everyone in my family found and sustained their own happiness while we were on St. Simons Island and at The King and Prince Resort. We’ve dubbed The King and Prince Resort ‘our all-inclusive happy place’. The King and Prince Resort provides guests with the ultimate environment and atmosphere for finding their happy-place.

Have you been to St. Simons Island and The King and Prince Resort?

No One’s a Tourist at The King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island, GA

Have you ever gone on vacation and when it was time to go home you felt like you were leaving home and friends?

The King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island in Georgia was my home for the last four days.  This four day trip was not a typical vacation destination.  The wonderful people who hosted us while on the trip made us feel like we were at home.  Vacationers are family at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.  There are no tourists.

Cap Fendig was one of the first residents of the island that I met while at The King and Prince.  Within minutes of meeting Cap and hearing him talk about the island I transitioned from feeling like a tourist to feeling like I was a friend of his visiting the island.  Cap knows the island inside and out and educates and entertains his tour customers.

I also met The King and Prince’s Executive Chef Jeff Kaplan and Vinny D’Agostino director of Food & Beverage who both did everything they could to make myself and the other travellers feel like I was at home while dining on delicious meals including shrimp and grits and blackberry sorbet that just melted in my mouth.  It seemed effortless on their part to make us feel at home.  In just a few days we learned about their families, the history The King and Prince and the island.

For three nights I feel asleep to the sound of ocean waves and for three nights I slept like a baby.  As soon as I stepped onto my balcony in the mornings I felt invigorated, inspired, and ready to take on the day.  My worries and anxiety, something I deal with daily, seemed to drift off into thin air while on St. Simons Island.  Being at The King and Prince Resort was therapeutic for me.  Yesterday I took a walk on the beach and saw dolphins playing in the waves very close to shore. I am pretty sure they were telling me to come back soon and stay a little longer next time.

Today I have a headache and I’ve been trying to pretend the sound of passing cars is ocean waves. Are those signs of withdrawal?

I’ll be back at The King and Prince this summer with my family.  Thank you to Leigh Cort, The King and Prince ResortCap Fendig, Vinny D’Agostino, Chef Jeff Kaplan, and Bud St. Pierre, Griffin Bufkin of Southern Soul BBQ, crew of Lady Jane Shrimping Cruiseand the people of St. Simons Island for hosting me on this amazing trip!

Atlanta Moms: Nature Doesn’t Have to Be Endangered

Chattahoochee Nature Center - Nature Exchange

Somewhere in California, a small miracle is taking place. It is projected that by year’s end, the California condor population will reach 200 birds in captivity and another 200thriving and reproducing in the wild.

This is big news when you consider how far they have come. Twenty five years ago, the last wild California condor was captured and added to the population of 26 captive individuals.

The California condor was once found throughout the southwestern United States. As with many endangered and extinct animals, these birds fell to human pressures including habitat changes and human predation. The last straw was the introduction of the pesticide DDT.  This chemical caused the Condor eggshells to become so thin that they would break long before the chick could hatch. To a species that was already struggling to survive, the inability to add to future generations was a staggering blow.

Thanks to concerned scientists, naturalists and nature lovers, these birds have beenbrought back. It is a testament to what can be done to save a species when we work together.

But we can’t sit on our laurels. It is estimated that there are over 16,000 endangered plant and animal species worldwide and many more that are threatened.
This month in the Nature Exchange at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, you are invited to learn more about endangered and threatened species from Georgia and around the world. Learn about measures being taken to preserve Georgia’s population of Bog Turtles and the possible rediscovery of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker. Cheer on migrating songbirds as they pass through on Migratory Bird Day. Take a close look at rarely seen biofacts from our endangered species collection.
