5 Things You Can Do With Post-It® Craft Paper

Post-It® Craft Paper holds many possibilities for all children! The paper is thick and has a peel-off backing. I love how mess-free Post-It® Craft Paper is for children.  My five-year-old can create beautiful pictures and ‘art’ without using glue or tape.  She seemed to have an easy time getting the backing off of the paper which was my primary concern.  She was able to cut the paper just fine and loved the different colors in the pack I gave her. She created a scene with grass, trees, a sunshine (see photo below), and clouds, all by herself.  She was so proud and she had a great time creating piece after piece of art while I worked next to her!

Post-It® Craft Paper

Here are 5 crafts your child can create with Post-It® Craft Paper:

1. Create a holiday scene
Your child can easily cut out decorations for a background for any holiday including Thanksgiving or Christmas and simply peel and stick to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. By cutting out the basic triangle for a Christmas tree, your child can then cut out ornaments, decorations, and gifts out of the paper and attach it to the page, mess-free.

2. Make a card
It’s peel and stick ability make it easy for a child to create a card for a birthday gift or holiday party for that special friend.  My 5-year-old made her friend a birthday ‘card’ out of Post-It® Craft Paper a few days ago! It was adorable!

3. Create a scrapbook picture frame
Cut shapes out of the paper in a variety of colors and use the shapes to decorate a picture frame for a loved one with a photo of your child inside. This is perfect for the grandparent who has everything!

4. Paint a picture that can hang itself
The genius of Post-It® Craft Paper is that your child can create their artwork on the paper and it can be stuck directly to the wall without damaging paint or wallpaper.  This makes the perfect gift for Dad to take to work to put on his office wall.

5. Custom make stickers
Allow your child to draw favorite pictures and characters on the paper then cut them out. Reward jobs well done with custom stickers or use the cuts-outs to decorate notebooks, folders, and papers!

Atlanta: Chattahoochee Nature Center – Nature Exchange

Chattahoochee Nature Center - Nature ExchangeHave you heard about the Nature Exchange at the Chattahoochee Nature Center? This is one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets that shouldn’t be a secret. The Nature Exchange is a cool place where nature lovers of all ages can bring in their collections of shells, rocks, seeds (or almost anything from the natural world) and trade them for new nature items to expand their collection. Since the Nature Exchange opened in June of 2009, well over 3000 people have come in to trade and many more have explored the fascinating nature objects from around the world.

The real secret behind the Nature Exchange is that it’s all about getting outside and learning about nature. The trading value of an object grows based on how the item was responsibly collected, how interested the trader is in the object, how much the trader knows about it and on the effort they took to learn about it. Lots of fun learning tools, from microscopes to rock testing kits, are available to give you a learning boost.

You can learn more about the Nature Exchange at CNC by visiting their website at chattnaturecenter.org/nature-exchange. There you can get ideas about getting started and to learn about the new activities available each month. Better yet, grab your favorite pinecone or polished stone and come out for a visit. The Nature Exchange is included with general admission and is open during regular CNC hours- 10am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sundays.

How to choose the best summer camp for your child

Live in Atlanta?  Find an Atlanta summer camp for your child on our local site, AtlantaMoms.com.

There are lots of  options when it comes to choosing a summer camp making the selection process potentially tedious. The most important thing to consider when choosing a summer camp is your child’s personality and interests. She is the one who’s going to the camp so it is only logical that she choose what camp she attends, however don’t forget about the safety of your child.. always visit the camps your child is interested in before signing up.

Parents should keep in mind the security and safety of their child. It is important to know where the camp will be held, the hours of the camp, if the counselors/teachers are CPR and first aid certified (not always necessary.. important for sports camps though) and what activities the kids will be participating in.   And always consider if the camp will fit your child’s personality. Once you are 100% sure that the summer camp your child has chosen to attend fits her personality and is safe, then she is good to go!

What types of summer camps are available?

Academic camps are the most popular type of summer camp. From math camps to science camps, academic summer camps are sure to boost your child’s confidence, social skills, all the while prepping her for her next year at school.  Technology and computer camps are the very popular among kids these days as well.

If your child is selecting a summer camp based on her interests, it is important to consider what kind of activities she would like to engage to ensure that her time at camp is enjoyable, educational, and socially beneficial. It is important that your child will learn new things and meet new people with similar interests.

If your child loves sports, a lot of camps offer lessons in different kinds of sports like football, basketball, swimming, and tennis, among others. Moreover, there are also summer camp classes for beginner martial arts, and also for those who have previously learned the art.

If your child enjoys music, you’ll want to look in to music and band camps which teach children to play various instruments and some work with campers to develop their singing talent. Acting and dancing summer camps are also popular among kids.

Arts and crafts, and theatre summer camps are great confidence boosting summer camps as kids feel are able to show their talent in drawing, painting, sculpting, and making crafts. At art and theatre camps kids are given the opportunity to improve on what they believe they are good at which boosts kids’ confidence.

Choosing a summer camp should be taken seriously and parents and their child should meet the camp counselors and/or teachers before camp begins to make sure that everyone is comfortable and confident in their summer camp choice.
