How to Get the Most out of the Fuel Rewards® Program + Get Instant Gold Status and save 5¢/gal

A few months ago I began using a cash-back credit card for all expenses because my bank accounts have been hacked one to many times after using a debit card to purchase something.  Side note… I pay the credit card off every month.  I would NEVER recommend using a credit card if you don’t have the cash in the bank to cover your expenses when you make the purchase.

Given that, you can see how I would be very happy to learn that I can save 5¢ per gallon at Shell gas stations just by using my Fuel Rewards® member number at the pump.  Shell is giving “Instant Gold Status” to new Fuel Rewards® members as well as all existing Fuel Rewards® members.  Members with Gold Status automatically save 5 cents per gallon at the pump.  Now I’m getting 5% cash back from my credit card AND saving 5¢ per gallon at the same time!  Gas is starting to feel like a steal.  I just hope gas prices don’t skyrocket again.

On top of that, once you’re signed up you can stack your rewards to save more at the pump. Combine your rewards from Gold Status with rewards from everyday activities like shopping, dining and traveling.

How to get started with Fuel Rewards®

  1. Register to become a Fuel Rewards® member and get Instant Gold Status at Shell.
  2. Visit a participating Shell station and swipe your Fuel Rewards® card or enter your Alt ID to redeem your rewards.
    • You’ll save at least 5¢/gal for being a Fuel Rewards® member with Gold status.
  3. Swipe your payment card, and then purchase up to 20 gallons of fuel at the lower fuel price.

How Does Stacking Work?

When I signed up for Fuel Rewards® here, I was prompted to enter the information for the credit card I will use at the pump.  This is how it tracks your ‘stacked rewards’; from your linked credit card purchases.  For example, I will earn 20¢/gal for every $300 I spend on hotels and rental cards with my linked MasterCard.  Another way I can earn extra $ off Shell gas is by spending $50 or more at Teleflora, in which case my $ off will bump up an extra 10¢/gal.  Some offers are for a limited time and some are every day offers.  

Dining out is another way you can cut your gasoline cost by 10¢/gal.

  • Dine at participating restaurants and pay with your linked Mastercard®, Visa® or American Express®card.
  • Earn 10¢/gal for every $50.00 you spend across all participating restaurants, bars and clubs.
  • Rewards earned while dining out will post to your account within 10 days.

Redeem Fuel Rewards® savings with your Fuel Rewards® card or Alt ID at participating Shell stations. Fuel Rewards® savings are limited to 20 gallons of fuel per purchase per vehicle, or fraud limits placed by Shell and/or limits placed on your payment card by your financial institution, each of which may be lower. Fuel Rewards® savings must be redeemed in a single transaction. Once you begin to dispense fuel using your Fuel Rewards® savings, you must dispense to the 20-gallon limit or you forfeit any remaining discounted gallons of fuel. For example, if you only pump fifteen (15) gallons of fuel, you would abandon the remaining five (5) gallons of discounted fuel. If you have a rewards balance greater than the current per- gallon price of fuel, the price will roll down to the maximum capability of the fuel equipment, and your remaining rewards will be saved for a future fuel purchase. Dispenser may require a price of up to 10.9 cents per gallon. It may not be possible to combine multiple discounts and/or rewards in a single transaction. Spring has sprung in Atlanta and in spite of spreading a thick layer of pollen on every surface imaginable, Spring is the time when the kids spend the most time outdoors. Paper towels, paper towels, paper towels… that’s one of our staples during Spring. Whether we use them to wipe pollen off Madelyn’s sandbox, the swings, or blow noses when tissues aren’t available outside, paper towels can be found around every corner of our house and outdoor spaces.

What else does Spring mean for our family?  Well, this goes along with the playing outside I mentioned earlier… laundry detergent galore!  We recently stocked a shelf system in our garage with 4 HUGE things of Tide Coldwater amongst other often used items.  It seems during the spring and summer months we do three times the laundry as in winter.  It makes sense seeing as how the kids are much more active outdoors and get dirty and stinky.

2013 Black Friday SalesBlack Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is known to the one of the busiest, if not the busiest shopping day of the year.  Shoppers are drawn to the special offers offered by retailers and some even stay up for well over 24 hours to get the ‘best’ deals on everyone in their family’s wish list.  I call them crazy but if you are one of them, don’t mind me. 😉

I personally don’t usually brave actual physical stores on Black Friday.   I’m not that cool. I prefer to shop from the comfort of my home using that thing called the Internet.  Many online stores offer free shipping and amazing deals on Black Friday.

As strange as it may sound, I rarely take Madelyn with me when I buy her clothes.  I’d rather buy a bunch of clothes and bring them home for her to say yay or nay to and try on at home, than deal with the potential whining about trying clothes on and me taking too long.  On that note, last week I was brave and took Madelyn to the OshKosh B’gosh store.  I expected whining.  I expected chaos.  And I got it.   Not because she didn’t want to try clothes on.  It was the opposite this time.  She wanted to try on everything!  We were at the store for 2 hours.

When we arrived at OshKosh B’gosh, two employees greeted us. One asked what we were shopping for and one told us about the amazing doorbuster items.   My jaw dropped when she told me that the fleece pullovers were just $9!  If I wasn’t there to buy outfits for school, I would have grabbed a dozen pairs of fleece pants and pullovers and been done with our shopping trip.

After perusing the doorbuster items we made it to the racks of clothes.  Madelyn put three outfits together in a matter of minutes.. then five.. and more and more.   Oh my gosh they were cute outfits too!  I quickly got down on my knees and explained to her that while I would love for her to have a velvet dress with an adorable turtleneck to pair with it and tights, my goal with this shopping trip was to buy her a couple of outfits she could wear to school.  While I was talking to her, I saw her eyes focus on something behind me.  Boots.. “the most super-adorabalist boots EVER” she said…sort of like that new word she came up with earlier this week; fancasual.  She’s on a roll with the interesting new words. That was the end of that conversation.

While she tried on the boots, I found jeggings.   I have bought Madelyn several pairs of jeggings in the last year and she’s worn holes in all of them.  When I picked up a pair of OshKosh’s jeggings, I realized that the jeggings I had bought were not nearly as good quality as OshKosh B’gosh’s.  Their jeggings are thick and seem very durable.

Madelyn paired a knit cardigan from OshKosh B’gosh that she had with one of the outfits we bought, creating this adorable outfit.  This is my favorite of the outfits she picked.  It is practical for school and it will also make a cute holiday outfit.

Oh, and aren’t the boots adorable? The boots are regularly $50. I initially told Madelyn she couldn’t get the boots but when she put the effort into putting them on with every outfit she tried on and I saw just how freakin’ cute they are with everything.. I caved.  I was sure the boots were going to put us well over our $100 limit.. but seeing as how our entire purchase was just $96, they didn’t!

I could not believe how many items we were able to get with our $100 gift card at OshKosh B’gosh!  Seriously.  I took a photo to show you just what we bought with $96!
