Baby Sharmooz: a satin headrest for baby

My mother uses a satin pillowcasBabysharmooze and got my son, now 8, hooked on satin pillow cases when he was about two years old.   I don’t blame them.. satin is soft, smooth, and luxurious to the touch.
Adults have use satin pillow cases for years to keep hair under control while sleeping.  Cotton pillow cases tend to grab and break delicate hair which causes the dreaded ‘bald spot’.

The Baby Sharmooz may reduce and/or eliminate balding by allowing the head to glide over the satin headrest. It gets better.  You may ask how the Baby Sharmooz stays put.  The non-slip backing ensures that the satin headrest’s movement is minimal if it moves at all.   The Baby Sharmooz is not intended for use in the crib. Baby should not have any type of blanket or pillow in her crib for the first year or so.

The Baby Sharmooz is for use in a baby swing, carrier, car seat, and bouncer.  The Baby Sharmooz is just big enough for baby’s head making it easy to take with you anywhere you go.  I’ll tell you a secret.. during the testing phase of the Baby Sharmooz, I used it in the car, for myself.  Who doesn’t love the cool feeling of satin?  Other Sharmooz products include the Royal Sharmooz Pillowcase for older children and adults, satin fitted cribsheets, baby blankets, and burp cloths all available in several colors and styles.

Madelyn loves her Baby Sharmooz and even uses it like a blankie.

Braun ThermoScan ExacTemp

BraunthermoscanexactempWhen Sebastian, now 8, was younger we used a traditional glass thermometer.  After we broke two glass thermometers which posed a danger because of the broken glass and tiny beads of mercury on the floor, I purchased an ear thermometer.  Ours is quite out-dated and when I recently received a Braun ThermoScan ExacTemp to review, I was very pleased with the features as compared to my 5 year old ear thermometer.

What makes it special: Braun’s ThermoScan ExacTemp thermometer is exceptional in that is features ExacTemp technology. To help avoid inaccurate temperatures the tip is warmed to a temperature close to that of a human body.   The ThermoScan measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissues.  The eardrum shares blood supply with the hypothalamus, the temperature control center in the brain, which means that changes in your child’s body temperature are reflected sooner in the ear than at other sites which is just one more reason to use an ear thermometer.

What’s included: The ThermoScan comes with protective tip covers and a protective case ensuring that the thermometer is secure when not in use.  To save battery life, the ThermoScan thermometer automatically shuts off after 60 seconds.  I am so tired of buying batteries..I love the auto-off feature!

More features: The LCD screen is easy to read and shows the battery level, the thermometer beeps when it is finished taking a temperature.  When your child is sick and you need to check her temperature often, the memory feature comes in handy.  You can store up to 8 temperatures and can access store temperatures easily.  The ThermoScan is light and is designed in such a way that it is easy to hold and won’t slip out of your hand. This thermometer fits into a compact protective case that also stores the probe covers.  I can’t tell you how many times I have had to buy a new pack of covers just because they got lost.. or Sebastian played with them.  Being able to store the probe covers directly in the case is great!

Important note:  There are at least two ThermoScan models so look closely at the details before buying as they have different features.

Care for Kids DVD: $19.99

Careforkids
Nothing will happen.. You’re going to be fine..  That won’t happen to you..

I can’t tell you how many times I heard those three statements.  Then I had a bad car accident. Six years later, I had another.  ‘It’ did happen to me and it happened when and where I least expected it.  It can happen to you too and you don’t know if ‘it’ will happen in the car, in the kitchen or the bathtub so you have to be prepared.   I don’t like saying it, but it is a fact that more children die each year from preventable injuries than from all childhood illnesses combined.  That’s huge!

Did you know that 60% of poisonings in children ages 5 and under are not from pharmaceuticals but cosmetics, cleaning substances, and toys?  I didn’t know that until I was introduced to the ResponsibleFamily.com website and their Care for Kids DVD.

The Care for Kids DVD covers medical emergencies, demonstrations in a hospital/doctor’s office setting, and step by step instructions for caring for injuries.

This is a great DVD to have on hand and to share with friends, family with kids, and Grandparents.  I feel more confident in treating Sebastian or Madelyn’s injuries after watching Care for Kids than I did before.  Parents can pop the DVD in the player and spend 30 minutes making sure
that the babysitter knows when to call 911 and what to do in the
meantime.

One thing I wish was covered on the DVD is CPR.  I understand their point of wanting parents to take a CPR class but for those who haven’t, can’t or won’t, CPR instruction would be great.
