My visit to the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis for the General Mills Eat & Greet event

I had a great evening with lots of wonderful bloggers at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis.  There are about 50 bloggers here for the General Mills Eat & Greet event and we will have an early and busy day tomorrow.  We’re going to the General Mills campus, will tour the facility, and taste yummy food.. how on earth am I going to handle that?  Just kidding.. I’ll be fine, don’t worry!

Here is a photograph I took from the Observation Deck at the Mill City Museum:

I saw a really neat poster in the museum showing what old Bisquick boxes looked like and thought of my 9 year old son Sebastian and how much he loves making pancakes with Bisquick.. I thought I’d post a little comparison photo here of the past versus the present Bisquick look.

My new Frigidaire Affinity washer saved the day again. I was in need of a last minute purple popsicle removal.

Frigidaire Affinity Washer - stain gone!

I was bummed when I saw a big purple popsicle stain on Madelyn’s brand new shirt she’s supposed to wear to preschool.  She’d had the shirt for about 7 hours, she just got it from her preschool orientation earlier that morning, at it was already stained! Ugh!
I put the shirt in the laundry area and then forgot about it for a couple of days until the night before school started, which is today! So last night, I rushed down to the laundry and put the shirt in the washing machine hoping that the stain would at least fade. How embarrassing would that be for Madelyn to go to school wearing a stained shirt on her first day of school?
I was so relieved when after just one cycle in my new Frigidaire Affinity Washing machine the purple popsicle stain was gone and the shirt looked brand new, bright colors and all.

More ways my new Affinity Washer and Dryer have helped me:

  • Sebastian doesn’t fuss about gathering and doing his laundry because he likes using the new washer and dryer.  They are easy for him to start, set, load, and unload.
  • The Advanced Rinse Technology allows for a final rinse during which fresh water is used as opposed to the left-over dirty water my old washing machine used.  Gross!
  • The 7 dry cycles and 12 dry options, including the Shrink Guard Ultra, allow me to dry even the most delicate clothes that I wouldn’t have dried ‘pre-Affinity’ for fear that I wouldn’t be able to fit into them anymore.

Cupcake Basics 101

cupcake-supplies

Along with back to school time comes birthday parties, school functions and holiday events calling for home baked cupcakes. I’ve already made one batch for the new families picnic at my daughter’s preschool. One thing I’ve learned from my first cupcake experience is that you need the right tools to make cupcake baking and decorating an efficient and fun experience. Of course you can pay $3 a pop for the bakery made cupcakes, but you can also buy the pre-made mixes from LA’s Sprinkles Bakery. They are famous for their red velvet cupcakes and the cupcake mix is sold at Williams Sonoma.

I’ve found that using the correct tip for icing and decorating can save time and frustration. For perfectly swirled frosting that is peaked at the top use a Wilton tip #1M. Wilton has instructions for everything you wanted to know about cupcake decorating here. Another essential for icing cupcakes is an offset spatula. It has a small bend that gives you the correct angle for applying the frosting. It has made my cupcake experiences so much more enjoyable. Once you’ve decorated your fabulous cupcakes you’ll want to transport them safely. A quality cupcake carrier will keep your cupcakes from getting smashed or falling over.

Book review: My New iPhone

My New iPhone book reviewAs my regular readers know, I love my iPhone.  I love almost everything about it; the phone and the apps are awesome.  The camera though, is not so great but that’s why I have a regular camera!

Whether you just bought an iPhone or you are thinking about buying one, My New iPhone is for you.  The books explains every detail of the iPhone from working with the keyboard to voicemail to how to browse the built in YouTube feature for videos.  You’re not just making calls with your iPhone are you?  If so, shame on you!

This project-oriented book will have you using your iPhone like a pro in no time.
My advice is to buy the book, put it in your car and read it while you are waiting in the carpool/pick-up line at school. You can easily cover a few projects while waiting.

There are lots of pictures making My New iPhone an easy read, especially for those of us with ADHD who have a hard time reading for more than 5 minutes at a time… or for those of us who have kids for that matter.

Wallace Wang, author of the best-selling My New Mac, will show you, step-by-step, how to:

  • View weather predictions, traffic patterns, flight information, and stocks
  • Take notes, text message your friends, and browse the web
  • Customize your iPhone by rearranging icons and changing its wallpaper and sound effects
  • Find and install the best new applications and games
  • Browse iTunes, listen to music, and watch YouTube videos
  • Use Skype to call your family for free
  • Create your own ringtones and get free podcasts and audiobooks
