My heart is broken!

I am reaching out to you..  for advice. I am having a really tough time lately. Madelyn will not nurse any more (she is 8 months old). When I try to nurse her, she arches her back and screams like I am hurting her.
First, let me give you a little bit of history. I knew that I wanted to breastfeed Madelyn for at least one year before she was even born. I was only able to breastfeed Sebastian for 6 weeks and stopped because a lactation consultant told me that it would be better for him and me due to the stress it was causing both of us. Now, 7 years later, I know better.
Madelyn was never a great nurser (she only nursed for 2 or 3 minutes per side), but I stuck with nursing her exclusively for almost 4 months. Then after listening to my Mom tell me that she wasn’t nursing long enough to do any good, I decided to start supplementing with formula. I would breastfeed, then she would immediately gulp down a 4 -6 ounce bottle. This was our routine for 3 months.

Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a great holiday! Ours was pretty busy as I’m sure yours was as well. We have Christmas at our house every year so naturally, I am exhausted and stressed out today. Sebastian (7 years old) got some great toys and Madelyn (8 months old) got some cute clothes and a few toys. She would rather play with Sebastian’s toys anytime than baby toys. I guess that’s what second children do. I have never checked a toy so thouroughly as I check Sebastian’s toys now so I know what is safe for Madelyn to play with and what’s not.
Review Status.. I am leaving town to go to Florida tomorrow (Wednesday the 26th) and will be back Sunday the 31st. I will try to publish some reviews while in Florida but I can’t promise that I will.  I am not paid to write the reviews featured on the site so I try not to work during vacation.
I hope you enjoy the rest of 2006 and visit ‘The Mommy Insider’ often in the new year to read my reviews, get coupon codes, and enter the contests!

School Zone has a new product line just for BABIES!

Madelyn’s newest favorite thing is her little pink mouse. She loves to chew on its tail. No, it’s not a real mouse.. Do you really think I would let a real mouse in my house?  It’s a ‘Clever Baby Card’ mouse from School Zone’s new product line just for BABIES! Yeah!! We love you School Zone!  The products are colorful, have purpose and are durable. Madelyn has tested them well. The products that we received have been chewed on, spit up on, drooled on, thrown, and dropped and so far, they have all survived their dramatic callings.

Madelyn loves to play with the Clever Baby Cards (for babies 6+ months) which come in a set of 5. Each card is double sided, printed with bright colors and each has some kind of texture or fabric attachment. Textures and attachments include crinkly areas, fur, rope, googly eyes, fuzz, and leathery material. The cards are just the right size for baby to hold and each card has an "easy to hold" area such as legs, a tail, a tongue and so on. The cards can be wiped clean.

A couple of other products in School Zones new baby line are the Happy Faces Infant
Mirror Cards and the Peek a Boo cards. Both of these products are for babies 9 months +.  Madelyn (now 7 months) loves to look in the mirror of card and she really enjoys when I read what’s on the cards to her. She is starting to get very excited when we play peek a boo and she smiles just as big when we play peek a boo with her School Zone peek a boo cards. She thinks they are so funny!

The Clever Baby Cards come in 2 ‘styles’: fuzzy animal and fuzzy farmyard friends. Because she loves her first set so much I will probably get her the farmyard set for Christmas.

Visit School Zone today to find fun new toys for your baby!

Listen to Alicia’s message here:

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I realized after arriving back in town that we didn’t talk to Sebastian (7 years old) about the meaning of Thanksgiving this year. The week was so hectic, we were busy preparing, cleaning, driving, cleaning more, cooking, cleaning more, etc. It didn’t even cross my mind to be sure that he knows what Thanksgiving is really about. To Sebastian, Thanksgiving is a time when we drive north to visit relatives, eat, and play outside in his Grand dad’s yard.. not a time of thanks.  I would love to know how many of you talked to your kids about the meaning of Thanksgiving this year.  Please participate in this poll here.
