Jurassic World Movie

Our Halloween night was supposed to look like this…  trick-or-treating through the neighborhood, then a Halloween Festival at a nearby church, and last, a viewing of Jurassic World.  I visioned the kids and I and Tim sitting on the couch together, a blanket covering our laps, popcorn in hand and Mike and Ike’s and Peeps on our snack plates.  Maybe you see where I’m going with this.  It didn’t happen.  Tim and I talked about what we thought was going to be such a fun night for a week before Halloween.  It would be a Halloween night unlike any other, we thought.  Well, it was.  It was the quietest Halloween ever.  Madelyn was sick and Sebastian went to a friend’s house.  That left Tim and I taking care of Madelyn who was in no condition to stay up to watch a movie.   We took her to the Halloween Festival but left soon after because she had a coughing attack.  🙁

I am sort of glad Madelyn didn’t watch it with Tim and I once we had time to watch it as she is very sensitive to violence, which this movie does not lack – but in a fun way for kids over 12 or so and who can handle some gore and suspense.  If you haven’t already seen Jurassic World, now is the time to plan a date night or family movie night!  This movie is fast paced, energetic and even the dinosaurs were full of character.  The CGI was wonderfully done allowing us to feel like we were flying in the world of dinosaurs ourselves.

I think I’ve only been to a movie once in my life when I didn’t have popcorn.  Having a special snack is a huge part of the movie experience to me. Shaun the Sheep Movie disclosure

If you’ve been to a movie lately you’ve seen the trailer for “Shaun the Sheep Movie“.  From the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit this movie will be a huge hit with your kids and you’ll love it too!  Landing in theatres August 5th, “Shaun the Sheep Movie“ is easy to follow for the youngest of viewers, even though it features zero dialogue.  Shaun is the smart one in a herd of goofy wooly stop-motion English sheep who spend their days doing typical sheep things while their caring Farmer keeps them in line with a very stringent schedule.  Shaun and his pals leave the safety of their farm and head into the netherworld of the nearby town in search of their loving, long-time farmer, who has amnesia.  This is when things, almost everything, seems to go wrong! The sheep must adopt disguises and evade the animal catcher, Trumper, in order to find their farmer in the Big City.

At just an hour and 25 minutes long, the claymation movie flies by with laughs, oohs, and ahhs.   The film geared for ages 4-10 stars the popular characters from the long-running children’s television series of the same name.   Meet the movie’s youngest character, Timmy who enjoys copying everything Shaun does in the “Meet Timmy” Featurette below.

Adults will find humor in the film through the use of dialog-free smart wisecracks, visual film puns, including a sequence satirising Silence of the Lambs.  This claymation film wasn’t quick to come to fruition.  Standing seven inches tall, Shaun’s clay model was posed, poked, and reshaped thousands of times resulting in a high quality claymation film you won’t believe isn’t computer generated.   The textures are unbelievable with Shaun’s fleece even having to be stiffened with PVA glue to stop it from catching fire!  Shaun is a true sport! 😉   Model makers crafted 157 human figures and 197 sheep puppets—including 21 for Shaun alone.  Each sheep needed to be covered with 31 inches of fleece.  The miniature environments featured in this film overflow with lovingly rendered detail.

We’re planning to take my daughter and a friend to see Shaun the Sheep Movie when it comes out in theatres this week.  It’ll be a end-of-the-first-week-of-school celebration!

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer movie

This year summer may officially begin on June 21, but summer FUN begins promptly on Friday, June 10, 2011, when Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer opens in theaters nationwide!  This summer, third grader Judy Moody (played by Jordana Beatty) is planning the most super-duper, double-rare summer vacation ever with best friends Rocky and Amy. But it turns out Rocky (Garret Ryan) is going to circus camp to learn to tame lions, and Amy (Taylar Hender) is headed off to Borneo with her mom to save a lost tribe while Judy stays home with her pesky little brother Stink (newcomer Parris Mosteller) and second-best friend Frank Pearl (Preston Bailey). Just when she thinks things are as rotten as they can be, her parents announce that they will be going to California and Judy will have to stay behind with her Aunt Opal (Heather Graham) who she’s never even met!  It looks like Judy’s best summer ever has just become her worst summer ever.
