Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun #Giveaway – #bb4Me @DaisyOutdoor

My son is going to be a happy boy this Christmas.  He’s the best boy I could ever dream of having.   That being said, when Sebastian was young, it didn’t occur to me that he’d grow up to love multi-tools, camping, and bb guns.   I don’t know what I expected.  Nothing compares to the good ole’ outdoors to Sebastian.  My Grandfather passed away when Sebastian was about 7 years old but he still remembers his Daisy BB Gun.  My Grandfather had a great big garden with vegetables that he worked hard to grow and would talk of threatening the mischievous garden rabbits with (the sound of) his bb gun, although he never followed through with even the slightest threat when we were around.  His Daisy BB Gun was kept in a gun cabinet behind his recliner in the living room right by the back door, but he never took it out in front of the kids.  He was a very smart man.

Sebastian is a Boy Scout and loves to be outside, go hiking, camping, relax in his hammock, and build campfires.  The only thing that will make his backyard adventures even more exciting is when he opens his brand new Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun, bb pellets, and goggles this Christmas.  We won’t see him for the rest of the day or the day after, I’m sure.

During our shopping trip to buy the Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun, I was pretty excited.  I actually looked like I knew what I was doing in the sporting goods section at Walmart because it was so easy to find what I was looking for!   The Daisy section at our Walmart is considerable and I recognized the Daisy logo upon entering the section and found the Red Ryder BB Gun quickly.  Gathering accessories to go along with the bb gun was fun too!  I bought safety goggles and a HUGE container of BB pellets for Sebastian to enjoy with his new bb gun.

We are super excited about holiday gifting especially when it comes to our kids, this year.  Every November I get a bit anxious about what the kids will possibly want for Christmas, then it never fails that by the end of the first week of December they both supply us with a list of at least two dozen gift ideas.  My son’s wish list is made up of 80% outdoor products and 20% iPhone accessories and I think between my husband and I and relatives, he will get 100% of the outdoorsy items on his wish list this Christmas.

Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun

Before he’s allowed out the door with his new bb gun, he will have to understand a few gun safety tips:

  1. Check your target and beyond your target.
  2. Only load or cock a gun when you are shooting.  He is NEVER allowed to have pellets in his air soft gun in the house and he is NEVER allowed to cock it in the house.
  3. Anyone shooting or near a shooter should wear shooting glasses.  Do not take chances!
  4. Avoid ricochet. Never shoot at a flat hard surface or at the surface of water. Ammunition can ricochet off of water just like a skipped rock.
Find more gun safety rules on Daisy’s Website.
A Christmas Story movie - Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun

My husband and I already have our safety speech prepared.  Don’t shoot at anything except a target,

A Christmas Story

always wear protective eyewear, and don’t shoot anywhere near icicles!   I think you know why.  At least if you’ve seen the iconic Christmas movie, A Christmas Story, you know why.  The Daisy Red Ryder BB gun was available beginning in 1938 and is a well known bb gun as featured in A Christmas Story.  My husband loves that my son will have a Daisy Red Ryder almost exactly like the one Ralphie has in the movie.

Make Your Thanksgiving Day More Enjoyable With These 2 Laundry Tips

I know you love doing laundry. In fact I saw the results of a survey recently in which it was determined that Moms prefer doing laundry over vacuming. While I can’t find the survey now and I wouldn’t go so far as to agree with that, I do get a great deal of satisfaction out of taking clean, delicious smelling clothes out of the dryer.

Even if you don’t enjoy doing laundry, I highly recommend that you stay on top of laundry before and during Thanksgiving week.

One way I motivate myself to stay on top of laundry is by using a liquid laundry detergent that smells really good.

Holiday napkins are not used for cleaning!
Holiday napkins are not used for cleaning!

Scenario #1: Holiday Napkin Disaster

The kids don’t understand that holiday napkins are for use on special occassions like Thanksgiving & Christmas only. The kids use your holiday napkins to clean the bathroom or wipe the juice spill off the dining room floor, resulting in sticky, dirty napkins.

Tip:

Be ready to restock the holiday napkins with a spare set (yes, buy two sets of holiday napkins, at least) and while you’re using those, was the others with a detergent that is sure to make your house guests think that you just baked a delicious pie, Gain’s Apple Mango Tango liquid laundry detergent.

Scenario #2: Blanket Disaster At Aunt Betty’s

You visit Aunt Betty’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. The kids drag their favorite snuggle blankies all over Aunt Betty’s floor knowing that Aunt Betty has 19 dogs and 3 cats. Eeewww! Naturally, you find lint balls, dog hair, cat hair and who knows what else stuck to the kids blankets. But shoot! You didn’t bring laundry detergent to Aunt Betty’s house.

Sad blanket girl
This is how your child may feel when she can't snuggle with her dirty blanket on the way home from Aunt Betty's house!

Tip:

You never know what kind of laundry detergent a friend or family member uses, so I am a firm believer in BYOLD (bring your own laundry detergent)!

Just as importantly, you don’t want the kids to be snuggling with dirty blankies during the long drive home from Aunt Betty’s house, do you? All the more reason to take detergent with you and wash their blankets before driving home.

Aunt Betty would probably even appreciate it if you threw in a few napkins and hand towels with the kids blankies! 🙂

Not A Wine Connoisseur? Join The California Wine Club And Impress Your Holiday Visitors! | @CAWineClub

The California Wine ClubMy father is still in the dark when it comes to my recent acquisition of wine knowledge.  He may event think that I have been studying on the subject of wine.  I have the most fabulous partner in crime, The California Wine Company who through their Premier Monthly Wine Club, sends me two bottles of wine along with a newsletter that educates me about different vineyards and the wines they sent so I appear be a wine connoisseur, every month.  You too can be a wine Connoisseur!  It’s easy and affordable through The California Wine Club.  With the holidays coming up, I’m sure you will have a lot of visitors at your home so why not make it easy on yourself and join the club and have wine delivered to your door?

Through the Premier Wine Club’s monthly newsletter and The California Wine Club’s website, I learn something new about wine and wineries every time I receive a monthly wine shipment.  The California Wine Club has been in business for 20 years and travels the California wine country to find the best wines before they make it to local stores.  The small vineyards that The California Wine Club gets their wine from produces the best wine California has to offer.

Since 1990, club owners Bruce and Pam Boring have traveled California’s wine country searching for limited-production wines from small, family-owned wineries dedicated to the art of making fine wine. Whether for yourself or a gift, CWC membership is an adventure in wine tasting that will not be experienced anywhere else.

The California Wine Club ReviewLast Month’s Wine Shipment

Last month, our shipment included two wines from the Robledo Family Winery.  We opened the award winning 2008 “Seven Brothers” Lake Country Sauvignon Blanc first as we had planned a light fish dinner that evening and I understand that this wine would go well with our dinner.   The mango and honeysuckle aromas blended with the taste of green tea citrus and lemongrass make this wine a rich wine that pairs well with fish and light salads.

The second wine we opened, a few days later, (we’re not lushes) is a 2009 “Seven Brothers” Napa Valley Tempranillo.  I enjoy the look of a red wine more than white.  There is something more festive and romantic about a red wine.  This Tempranillo has a rich cranberry, blackberry, cinnamon, spice, and toasted oak aroma.  The flavors of dried black fruit, toasted cedar, product a rich finish.

I prefer the sweet taste and aroma of the Sauvignon Blanc while my husband preferred the Tempranillo.

You can really impress friends and family this holiday season by offering them award-winning wine while being knowledgeable.

The California Wine Club newsletter is a great tool for a wine novice like myself.  For example, in this month’s newsletter a reader asked the owners “which wines have you featured in the past and how can I reorder them?”. Through the readers questions, I learned that each newsletter features a page of wines that have been featured in the past which can be reordered AND comes with a 100% guarantee.

Not sure what to order?

The California Wine Company encourages mixed case orders in increments of 6 or 12.  Creating and mixed case order will allow you to order at least 6 wines that your friends and family (over 21 of course) are sure to find a suitable wine for themselves to enjoy.

A membership for The California Wine Club’s Premier Monthly Wine Club makes a great gift!

Save On Your Car Insurance With Snapshot, See My #TrySnapshot Grade, and #Win a Flo Swag Pack!

Progressive Team Flo - Snapshot

This is not me but this is how I felt when I saw that my SnapShot grade was an A+. YES!!

You know who this is, right? Yes! It’s Flo, the Progressive girl who many may recognize over their child’s principle.

I was given the opportunity to test drive Progressive’s new Snapshot device that plugs in to a car’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) port, usually found below the steering wheel.  The first time the car is turned on after installing the Snapshot device and every time thereafter while the device is in the port, you will hear a short series of beeps.  That’s my reminder to drive smart and safe!

While I had the Snapshot device installed I drove my normal, every day routes, but I also drove an hour away to a party for a friend of mine’s son.  It was during that drive that I was most nervous about my Snapshot grade but if Snapshot taught me anything, it is that we drive most defensively when close to home.   I learned that while I was on the unfamiliar highway to the party that I drove more carefully than usual, in unfamiliar situations.  During that two-hour round trip I did not receive one triple-beep warning sound which would have indicated that I hard-braked or accelerated too fast.

However, when driving on the roads closest to my home, doing normal everyday things is when I got the beep.  Darn!
It’s during these mini-trips to the grocery store, to my mom’s house, to Boy Scouts, and to Gymnastics class that I am not paying as much attention as I could be and therefore, I got the triple beep.

Once the Spanshot device is installed, the driver doesn’t have to do anything to send data to Progressive.  Nice, huh?  During my 30 day trial, I checked my grade on the Snapshot website almost every day.  Here is what I saw.. every day, if I remember correctly.

Progressive Snapshot trial
I am an A+ driver!

About two weeks into my trial, I had surgery. This is when I started getting nervous. Gosh, just knowing that my husband had to drive my car a couple of times stressed me out. Not because I was worried he would get a ding or run over a curb because my car is about 5 times larger than his.. NO! I was worried that he was going to ruin my A+ driving grade. Much like I imagine I’ll do when Sebastian starts driving in a few years, I talked to my husband in length about safe and non-defensive driving. I told him that he CAN’T hard break or accelerate too fast (his weakness). Much to my surprise, he complied. He did great! He was very respectful of my A+ and did what he needed to do to help maintain the grade.

THEN.. my sister came to town to help take care of me after my emergency surgery which was two weeks after my initial surgery.  I didn’t have the energy to get nervous or worry about her driving but darned if she didn’t get the triple-beep several times. Shoooot!

As you can see in the image below, Snapshot detected 1.4 hard brakes per 100 miles.  I’m sure those were not from me.  Actually, I have to admit, I hard braked at least once.  Just as I mentioned above, I was driving close to home when someone pulled in front of me (for real) on a two lane road.  I had to brake hard in order to not hit the car so I guess the triple-beep didn’t hurt my feelings too much because I knew I was driving safely.

Other information about my driving that’s included in the image below is how many rapid accelerations I had per 100 miles and my average mileage, which turns out to be low compared to most drivers.

Here’s some information about Snapshot:

Progressive car insuranceProgressive is changing the way drivers pay for auto insurance by creating a personalized insurance rate based on how you drive. With Snapshot*, available exclusively from Progressive, your safe driving can save you up to 30 percent on your car insurance. Plus, now anyone can try Snapshot – you don’t even need to switch your insurance. Drivers currently enrolled in the program on average save $150 per year.

The device records and sends the driving data to Progressive, and we use that information to calculate their rate. After 30 days, customers will find out if they’re eligible for a discount – up to 30 percent – based on that 30-day “snapshot” of their driving habits. At the end of a six-month policy period, Progressive calculates the renewal discount and customers return the device to Progressive. Drivers’ rates can’t go up with Snapshot. And the discount is not  based on location or speed. The device does not have GPS, so we don’t know where the car is. In addition, we don’t take into account how fast the car goes.
