Tips for Getting MORE Family Fun – How to Get More out of your Everyday Life and a Giveaway!

Join a local museum
Join and Visit a Local Museum for Family Fun!

We love to go to playgrounds and parks.  I am always looking for new places in Atlanta to take the kids that (A) don’t cost money and (B) have something for everyone in the family to do and enjoy.  I want the kids to grow up knowing that you don’t always have to spend money in order to have a good time.  Yes, the occasional $50 movie outing is nice and fun, but that’s not what I consider ‘family fun’.

Family fun is rolling on the floor laughing, playing board games and making up your own rules, cooking together, drawing pictures on the sidewalk, pulling weeds, and playing in the rain.  That’s fun stuff.. and it’s all free.  What child doesn’t enjoy finding shapes in the clouds or watching mom and dad play hopscotch?  Did I say.. free? I think so!  Yep, these things are all free to do and I believe it’s things like this that are burned into our children’s memory for years.

Other ways to have  MORE Family Fun without spending a ton of money:

  • Join a local museum, aquarium, or nature center and have family field trips to them often
  • Visit the neighborhood pool in the summer and horseplay before the lifeguards get there.. (you didn’t hear that from me!)
  • Get out your walkie talkies and have parent/child teams and go on a neighborhood scavenger hunt together
  • What ideas do you have?

Tips for Getting MORE and a Tony’s Pizza Giveaway!

Tony's PizzaI am  working on learning how to manage my household while stretching dollars and here are a few ways I’m doing that, that you can do too!

Get  MORE out of Food:

Every woman I know is trying to get more out of dinner these days, whether it’s more groceries for the dollar or more food in those groceries, or more meals out of that food.  It’s tough when we’re so tight on time–and money.  But if you can take a few minutes to plan out a solid menu you’ll actually save yourself time in the end.

Think about it.  How many times have you gone in the grocery store for a bag of shredded cheese and walked out with everything but that one ingredient you needed most?  Or, maybe you remembered the cheese but ended up with $100 worth of junk food that you really didn’t need because you were mindlessly throwing things in the cart without trying to put together a meal.  It happens to me all the time.

But it doesn’t have to happen if I simply make out a list and stick to it.  Seriously.  That’s not so complicated, is it?  You can even get the kids involved.  Make it a Sunday evening ritual if it helps.  Write down the meals you want for the week, what it takes to make them, and then stick to that list when you’re in the store shopping.  Having a list also could help you look for coupons you can use instead of aimlessly clipping and buying items simply because they’re on sale.

You can even come up with a couple meals made from the leftovers–possibly lunches the next day.  There are grocery shopping list templates all over the web if that makes it easier for you.  No matter how you choose to go about it, I highly suggest you get that list going soon.  It could make all the difference.

Get MORE around the House:

I am always thinking of ways to reuse things we might normally discard.  I really don’t need to hold on to the container the strawberries come in or the little plastic paper clip containers, but I do. I do a pretty good job at finding some way to reuse containers.  For example, Strawberry containers make really good marker and crayon holders and paper clip containers make good boxes for nails and other small items.  How do you reuse every day household items?

Get MORE from your money:

Saving money can be hard.. but even doing small things like shutting doors quickly when it’s cold outside and not letting the water run, can save a considerable amount of money on your water, electric, and gas bills.  Also, consider turning the TV off a couple of days a week. Make two days a week “No TV Day”.  You’ll be amazed at the things your kid’s find to do.  Maybe they’ll play outside, make up a few games, or clean their rooms! That last one was a joke. 😉  Turning off the TV just two days a week will save money on your electric bill.  You’ll see a difference.

Dotmine Day Planner Review & Giveaway

Dotmine day plannersI recently received a Pink Tie Dye Family_Time.Mine day planner and am very pleased with it.  The first and most important feature, to me at least, is the durable plastic cover.  What good is a day planner if someone spills milk on it and ruins it?  The plastic cover gives the Family_Time.Mine day planner that extra durability a mom’s planner needs.  Dotmine’s Family_Time.Mine day planner features one week per page giving me lots of space to write important events and notes for every day of the week.  The page margins are really nice too as they give me lots more room to write random notes and reminders.

Dotmine Day Planner

Dotmine day planner features:

  • Size – It is a good size for keeping on your desk
  • Storage – It has a pocket in the back
  • Durable – It has a durable plastic cover to protect it from spills (you know what I’m talking about Moms!)
  • Views – It has daily, weekly and monthly views, room for notes and for tracking the entire family, and tear-off margins for lists
  • Style – 20+ elegant, fun and sometimes funky covers each year

Dotmine day planners have specialized pages for phone numbers, babysitter information, and notes.
One of my other favorite features of the Family_Time.Mine day planner is the stickers.  I love having a visual, colorful reminder of important events like doctor’s appointments, recitals, and birthdays.  The Pink Tie Dye Family_Time.Mine planner comes with plenty of sticks that should keep you covered for a year.
