Excedrin® Migraine – Win a $140 Excedrin® Migraine Relaxation Gift Basket! {Contest has ended}

Excedrin Migraine

Congratulations Kathleen, Wendy, and Angie!

I have had several migraines in the last few years and I know how uncomfortable they can make someone.  My sister gets migraines often and I hate to see her feeling so badly during them.  The first things that I do when it feels like a migraine might be coming on is go to a dimly lit room, turn off all electronics, and place a warm compress on my forehead.  These are things that help for me. I’m not suggesting they help for everyone. Believe me, I know migraine symptoms can be terrible which is why I’m including some more ‘official’ migraine tips and prevention techniques from Execdrin, below.

Did you know that if you don’t take medication at the first sign of a migraine, it could last 24 hours or longer?  I’m a believer in taking medication for a migraine at the first sign.  If you can prevent it from lasting very long, why not?

Excedrine MigraineAccording to a survey conducted by Excedrin® Migraine and the National Headache Foundation:

eight in ten (83%) migraine sufferers confess that when they have a migraine, their family suffers as much as they do because of the impact it has on their ability to go about their regular routine.  I believe it!

Migraine Tips and Prevention Techniques

There are many different ways to manage migraines. There is no simple solution and every treatment plan should be individualized.

  • Perhaps the most important tool in tracking migraines is a migraine diary. It is used by doctors to track potential triggers and patterns related to your migraine. It helps you track food you eat when migraines occur, duration of migraines, type of pain, amount of sleep, etc.
  • Aerobic exercise has been shown to make an appreciable difference in reducing migraines and promoting a general sense of well-being. Even if you walk only 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Drinking plenty of water will help you keep hydrated and can help prevent the frequency of migraine incidents.
  • And, when migraine pain does set in, consider finding a quiet place to rest, applying a cool compress to the back of your neck.
  • Talk with your doctor about an over-the-counter pain reliever like Excedrin® Migraine, which starts to relieve migraine pain in 30 minutes.

  1. In my country we soak our heads with baby oil or “limacol” (a lemon based alcohol thing, lol) and tie your head with a scarf or wrap…

  2. Avoid triggers, one of my triggers is being in the sun for too long, so I know to always wear a sunhat or don’t be out in the sun…

  3. Tip 1 – Soak a towel in freezing cold water for a few minutes then put the towel across your neck. It helps lessen the tension.

  4. tip #4 reduce consumption of cigarettes as they have been linked to migraines (Dr told my husband this when he was taking Imitrex shots)

  5. Tip #1go on a fast of water and orange or cucumber or celery or carrot juice for two days or even three if the pain does not subside

  6. Use essential oil of peppermint! I put a few drops on the outside of my eye mask where it crosses my nose, so that its on the fabric but not touching your skin. Then just breathe in the scent while you lay in the dark. The peppermint really helps me!

  7. When you are laying down, use an eye mask to make sure you are in as much darkness as possible. You will be amazing how much light is still in your room even if you feel like its pretty dark. You will notice a difference with the eye mask. Darkness always helps my migraines.

  8. A good neck/shoulder massage from my hubby helps my migraines SO much! When one comes on, I have him do this. It hurts really badly at first (the massage) but afterward it really helps my migraine!

  9. Focusing on your breath can take your attention from your pain. Breath deeply to a steady count. I breathe in slowly while counting to four, hold for a count of four, breathe out for a count of eight, and hold for a count of four, then repeat.

  10. I like to put an ice pack on the back of my neck, at the base of my skull. You can also cool down with refrigerated wraps (or slightly frozen, damp towels) placed around your head and eyes. Sometimes even a cool, damp cloth over your eyes helps (and blocks light).

  11. When you notice an oncoming migraine, stop and take action immediately. The faster you react, the more effective you will be.

  12. cool towel on the forehead, low lights or no lights at all, white noise machine, peace and quiet (make every body leave the house if they cannot be quiet), take an excedrin migrane.

  13. Red Wine triggers migraines for me–
and we keep a bottle of Excedrin migraine in our drawer at work–that way as soon as we feel it coming on, we can take it & nip it before it goes all the way. also, keep a few in your purse for those when traveling.

  14. Another tip I have is to take Excedrin as soon as you get a head ache. Sometimes I try to wait it out and that can make me very cranky!

  15. Another tip I have to avoid headaches and migraines is to avoid having your hair up to tight. Sometimes when I have my hair in a bun I get a headache.

  16. Whenever I feel a headache coming on I always drink water! I’ve noticed that when I get headaches I usually haven’t had much to drink.

  17. I personally don’t suffer from migraines, however my hubby does and I always feel so bad for him. Usually he ends up being having nausea and vomitting. However if he catches it in time, excedrin is the only pain reliever that works for him, so he will take 2 lay down in a dark room with a cool compress over his eyes and it always helps.

  18. Sometimes it helps if I have a dose of caffeine — a soda or a couple Excedrin or some chocolate — I know for some people caffeine can make the headaches worse but it seems to help with mine.

  19. #3
place an ice pack on your head to soothe the muscles that are causing the headache. Ice will paralyze that area and it would prevent the muscle from throbbing excessively

  20. A migraine tip : avoid chocolate or eat in very small doses (I know its tough but it DOES help). (As for diet coke, I only drink diet coke that’s caffeine free-that really does help as well as I have been a sufferer for 10 years and the only meds that help is Imitrex and avoiding triggers).

  21. one of the ways I prevent a migraine is by getting to a dark, cold room when the first twinges hit. It doesn’t always prevent them but it does lessen the time if they do hit and I love Excedrin Migraine works magic.

  22. I have CONSTANT migraines. All day, every day. When they get bad my doctor reccomended drinking a can of Pepsi and eating some chocolate. No diet soda! It’ll make it worse. You’ll be surprised how much it helps! Having lavender oil helps. The smell is so relaxing.
