Editorial integrity is and always has been my MOST important consideration when writing blog posts including product reviews on The Mommy Insider: I write only about things I would buy, things I want to buy, or things I have bought. I do not accept money or products in exchange for writing a positive review, disregarding my own opinion.
In the interest of full disclosure, I’d like to explain to you how I make money (this is my full-time job) and what goes into my product reviews.
First, some of my posts/reviews contain affiliate links. I only work with affiliates I respect, worked with before they became an affiliate, would buy from, or already have bought from (like Amazon, eBaby, etc…). I never write a post specifically to promote affiliates. But, if I’m writing a post about Mutsy strollers or baby wash for example, and items I want to feature are available at sites I’m “affiliated” with, I’m going to use those links in my post.
With regard to reviews, I do sometimes receive product from a company or store to review. Products I receive are not returned and are considered an appropriate “trade” for the time it takes me to write the review, take photographs, etc. There are absolutely no expectations that I will write a positive review. If a company, store, or designer needs me to expedite a review, I charge a fee for the rush but only if I actually write and publish the review in which case I must have used and enjoy the product. I am a work from home mother of two young children and I don’t have time to write negative reviews so if I don’t like a product that I receive or buy, I don’t write about it. Contrary to what a lot of people seem to believe these days about bloggers, free stuff doesn’t cloud our judgments, influence our opinions, or compromise our editorial integrity. I, and other mommy bloggers I know, consider our relationship with our readers to be more important than anything else, and would never risk losing your trust or loyalty for money, or even a pretty diaper bag or the newest toy.
Finally, I’m sure you’re aware of the advertisements I serve on all of my sites. As with affiliates, I only work with advertisers I respect, have bought from or would buy from. You may see Google Adsense ads below posts or in the right column which are supposed to show ads that are only relevant to the post/review featured on that page. I do not have complete control over Google adsense ads but will not hesitate to take ads down if I feel that is necessary.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you questions or comments.
*Affiliate links – I earn a commission from the shop/boutique whenever something is purchased using my link.
